Journeying

In shamanic practice it is believed that part of the soul is free to leave the body, and that it does so regularly during dreaming. When a shaman journeys on your behalf, the shaman's soul leaves the body to travel. It may go to a spiritual aspect of places on the earth, or it may go within the earth or above it. A shaman journeys to find out information about a particular question or questions that you need to have answered.

Soul Retrieval

In shamanism it is believed that part of the human soul is free to leave the body anytime it desires--for instance, while dreaming or to protect itself from potentially damaging emotional or physical situations. Sometimes, when a person has experienced an abusive or traumatic situation (such as sexual or physical abuse, an impending car accident, or war trauma), a part of that person's soul may leave and not return, either because it cannot find its way back, or because it fears further damage. Through soul retrieval, a shaman can assist the return of the soul's missing piece, first by assuring it that it's safe to return and then by guiding it home. 

Extraction

In an extraction ceremony, the shaman enters a state of consciousness to find where unwanted parts or energy might be in your body, and what, if anything, needs to be removed (extracted). This unwanted part or energy may appear to the shaman as a black spot or as an animal that may be attacking from the inside. The shaman removes the unwanted element, disposes of it into a stone or other object, and then purifies or neutralizes that object (such as by soaking it in salt water, burying it in the ground, or taking it to a specific place as directed by the spirits).

Communication with the Dead

At times, you may sense that a deceased person is still around you, and that this soul may not know its body is dead, or it may not know how to go to the Light and to the next level of the soul's evolution. Acting as an intermediary and soul escort, a shaman helps you and your family by assisting the soul of your loved one along his/her path. This ceremony is also useful if you need to contact a deceased relative and pass on any information you did not express before the death. Ceremonies for communicating with the dead can also help a dying person pass over to the other worlds.

Rock Divination

A rock divination is used by shamans to provide guidance for a person who has a specific question. The inquiry may regard the timing of pregnancy or relationships, career decisions, conflict resolutions, or other issues. The rock is the medium used for communication with the spirit world. This is done by looking at the shapes and textures of the rock. The information gathered is then written down and transcribed with help from the shaman.
